Envergia Announces Expansion to Detroit: Advancing Clean Energy Innovation and National Security
DETROIT, MI – Envergia, a pioneering climate technology company originating in Europe, has announced plans to establish its first U.S. factory in Detroit, Michigan. This expansion marks a significant step forward in Envergia’s mission to deliver cutting-edge clean energy solutions while fostering local economic growth and job creation.
The new facility, located in Detroit Gateway Industrial Center at I-94 and the Southfield Freeway, will focus on battery recycling and critical minerals recovery—key components of a resilient and sustainable global EV supply chain. With an industry-leading 98% efficient recycling process, Envergia is setting new benchmarks in critical mineral recovery.
Supported by strategic partnerships with the City of Detroit and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), this investment reinforces Michigan’s position as a leader in the clean energy economy. The facility is expected to create approximately 52 new jobs in technical roles spanning engineering, manufacturing, and operations, aligning with Michigan’s broader sustainability and workforce development goals.
Kerry C. Duggan, Board Director at Envergia, emphasized the broader implications of this investment: “Ensuring the sustainability of our planet goes hand-in-hand with securing our nation’s future. From advancing clean energy solutions to addressing vulnerabilities in our critical materials supply chain, we are equipping communities and industries to thrive while strengthening national security. By prioritizing resilience in the clean energy transition, we can build a future that safeguards both our environment and our strategic interests. I moved back home to Detroit for moments like this!”
“EV battery technology is so complex, it is driving innovation throughout the automotive industry and supporting the supply chain while creating new opportunities in clean energy,” said Maureen Donohue Krauss, president and CEO of the Detroit Regional Partnership. “As a global leader in EV battery material recovery, Envergia is a great addition to our innovative mobility ecosystem. They join the vast network of companies and entrepreneurs that are in the Detroit region developing and delivering the latest mobility technologies and services.”
“Envergia made a wonderful choice selecting the Gateway Industrial Center as their new home, and we are proud to have played a role in bringing their battery recycling operations to our city,” said Kevin Johnson, President and CEO of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation. “This project brings quality jobs and industry-leading technology to Detroit while strengthening our growing EV ecosystem.” Envergia
Founder & CEO MJ Chandilya highlighted Detroit’s role in the company’s expansion: “Detroit is the perfect home for Envergia’s expansion into North America. This was abundantly evident from our first visit to the city. This city embodies resilience, innovation, and opportunity. By partnering with the City of Detroit and MEDC, Envergia is not just scaling our vision for clean energy—we are investing in Michigan’s future, creating jobs, and ensuring that Detroit continues to lead in building a sustainable economy.”
This project anticipates a capital investment of approximately $33 million in Detroit, Wayne County, reinforcing Envergia’s commitment to local engagement and community-driven sustainability programs.
